Etsy

My friend Rebecca introduced me to this fabulous little website called Etsy. Check it out! I really enjoy looking at the artwork and have discovered I have a strange fascination with trees. The pictures below are by Amy Giacomelli (brush name Natalia Sky) and can be found at http://www.etsy.com/.

One

Every one of us has purpose. Many are unsure of their purpose while others, like myself, feel a strong sense of certainty regarding why we're here. When I was young, the world convinced me that having an open mind conflicted with my faith. As I've gotten older, I've realized that isn't the case.

It's hard to explain the feeling that consumes me when people are put down for their race, sexuality or personal beliefs. My heart breaks for those who are outcast because society considers them different. God created each of us, and we are equal in his eyes. He loves us unconditionally despite our sinful nature. It's hard for me to comprehend why we struggle with showing others that love.

"How easy it is to misjudge and how difficult it is to be impartial in judgment. Our judgment of others is usually “off the mark” because we can’t see inside the person, or we don’t have access to all the facts, or we are swayed by instinct and unreasoning reactions to people."

Smile

Despite last year's heartache, I have so much to be thankful for. I've come to believe that through darkness, we realize what our priorities are. We gain the confidence to be who we are. I have no clue what lies ahead, but I do know that I'm not alone. I find peace in knowing my life is not in my hands. I have a new found joy for the simple things and am going to make the most of the 'here and now' instead of worrying about tomorrow.

Letting Go

"When we really see other people as they are without taking it personally, we can never be hurt by what they say or do."
Don Miguel Ruiz

There is only one way in which a person’s sincerity can be proved, and that is by one’s practice. Fine words can never replace good deeds. Our character is revealed in the choices we make, especially when we must choose between what is true or false, and good or evil.

Into the Looking Glass

The past year has been a year of self reflection... Looking at my reflection and trying to make sense of it all. It is my personal belief that life is about becoming more like Christ. It's about a relationship with God and our relationships with those He has placed in our lives.

Recently I discovered that I am too hard on myself. My mistakes and insecurities way heavily on my heart. A couple months ago, someone said something that helped lift the burden... "The rules outlined in the Bible are not rules... they're a guideline for how we should live our lives. God knows our sinful nature and expects us to make mistakes."

So many times we look to people for self assurance, acceptance and understanding. I cannot tell you how many times I have fallen into that and been let down. If only I had listened to God instead of being the ruler of my own life. Because the truth is, it's not about me, it's about Him... and I'm ready to give my life to Him.

Scout

A year or two ago my Dad rescued this dog off the streets. When we found him, he was only able to walk on 3 legs. He was so desperate for food, he swallowed a straight pin. Luckily, Scout passed the pin and is now healthy and walking on all 4 legs.

Although I love all my pups, Scout is my buddy. He sleeps next to me at night, waits for me to come home, and is all around the sweetest thing ever. Now, if I could only find a man who posses half the qualities my dog does...

A couple months ago at Bible study, we were talking about all the ways through which God shows us love. Now, this may seem strange to you, but I think God shows me love through Scout. He's the greatest.

Memphis In May

Okay, so maybe I've bashed my hometown a couple times in the past. But that doesn't mean I don't love my city. From what I've observed, most Memphians have developed a love/hate relationship with the city. Although it has its' faults, Memphis is home.

After graduating college and moving back to Memphis from Fort Worth, I began to develop hometown pride. I found myself with a bad case of Tiger Fever and mixed emotions over the departure of Coach Cal (this coming from a girl whose never considered herself a big sports fan). It's amazing how one basketball team can bring an entire city together. I have begun to appreciate the uniqueness of Midtown, the quaintness of the burbs, and the fact that Memphis has a lot of potential.

Contrary to popular belief, there is a lot to do here... especially in May. This year was my first year to participate in Memphis in May. After attending both Music and BBQ Fest, I'm starting to feel like a true Memphian. Music and BBQ are two of the things Memphis is known for, and music/BBQ/good friends is how I'll remember this month.
